I’ve had several people asking me about what type of photography equipment I use soI wanted to do a short post on what’s in my camera bag. I hope to do more photography blogging and will try to explain more about what equipment I use and why. I’ve been slowly adding to my photography equipment for a few years now, but there are always more things on my wish list. When I have a session that I’d like to use a lens for that I don’t have, I have rented it which works great, although it’s an expensive option. Renting is also a great way to take a lens for a test drive.
I shoot Canon. Through the years I’ve tried several different brands but when I stepped up to a DSLR I went with Canon because I had family who had used it and liked it. I love my Canon 6D, it allows me to capture great images even in low light situations. I’ve experimented with several different camera straps and eventually settled on the Black Rapid strap, mine is the women’s version. It’s great for taking the weight off of my neck and keeps it closer to my body when I lean forward, it’s always on my camera. I had to use my iPhone to get these images of my camera and lenses so they aren’t as sharp as normal.
What is actually in my bag at any given time depends on what lens I’m using. As you can see my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II takes up most of the bag when it’s on my camera. This is my favorite lens to capture creamy dreamy bokeh, especially for senior sessions. My next favorite lens is my Canon 85mm f/1.8, it’s a great all around lens. I use my Canon 50mm f/1.4 when I want to capture the scene around my subject or get a little bit closer to it.
As you can see above I have a few other things that I carry. I always have an extra battery fully charged in the bag, ready to go. I also have a lens pen and cleaning cloth. I use the WhiBal card to set the white balance.
Some of the things not photographed that I always have with me are memory cards, it makes a big difference what type of SD card you use and these are my favorite. I usually have my iPad and a couple of my favorite pens (Uniball Signo and Paper Mate Flair Pens) in my bag. I don’t go anywhere without Trident Spearmint Gum, so there’s usually an emergency pack in my bag:) All of this gets loaded into my Jo Tote Rose bag. I love carrying the Jo Tote, it’s comfortable and looks good.
So there you go, these are the things I usually carry with me in my bag. I plan to share more about my editing process soon, so stay tuned.
